There is olive oil made for the market. And there is olive oil that comes from a family.
Since 1898, our olive groves in Possacos near Valpaços have been part of our family's history. For generations, oil was made there — not for the market, but for our own table.
In my generation, this tradition was almost lost. My father emigrated from Portugal to Switzerland and built a new life there.
After his retirement, my father returned to this land. He took back the olive groves and revived the family tradition.
Today our family stands behind it together again: my father, my mother, my brother Mathias and I. Not industrial. Not for maximum volume. But with respect for origin, soil and time.
A true family olive oil. Since 1898. For the first time available to people outside our family.
In January 2026, for the first time, we decided not to keep this oil within our family alone. An oil that tastes of origin, patience and family. Of Trás-os-Montes.
Trás-os-Montes
Our Land
Quinta da Salgueirinha lies in Possacos near Valpaços, in the heart of Trás-os-Montes in northern Portugal. Here our olive trees grow on soils tended by the same family for generations. We do not treat our groves like an industrial plot, but like a living heritage – with respect for the soil, the fruit and the time that good olive oil requires.
220Olive trees
122Years – our oldest tree
December – January
Late Harvest
We harvest deliberately late – from late December to early January. By then the olives are riper and develop a deeper, rounder character. This path is not the easiest: winter, rain and wind can cause olives to fall before harvest. We do not use those olives. What is not good enough does not go into our oil.
Craft
Quality over Yield
That means less yield, fewer bottles, less volume – and that is precisely our choice. After harvest the olives are stone-ground and cold-extracted. The oil then rests in darkness until its flavour has developed. We only release it from April onwards. We force nothing. We take what the land gives us and make the best our family can.
Unique every year
Limited Production
Quinta da Salgueirinha is therefore limited. Each year there is only as much as our trees, the weather and the harvest allow. Some years bring more, others less. Not anonymous industrial oil, not a product built for maximum margin – but a true family olive oil that tastes of origin, patience and family.

Questions & answers
Frequently asked questions about olive oil & ordering
Everything important about origin, quality, delivery and ordering in Switzerland.
Where does Quinta da Salgueirinha olive oil come from?
From Possacos near Valpaços in Trás-os-Montes, northern Portugal. Produced on our family estate with around 220 olive trees. Imported and sold in Switzerland by Lucas Ferreira Carmo, Aargau.
What does extra virgin olive oil mean?
It is the highest grade: purely from olives, mechanically extracted, free of taste defects. Our oil is cold extracted from a late harvest (December–January) for a round, characterful flavour.
Do you deliver olive oil throughout Switzerland?
Yes. We deliver throughout Switzerland. Within 20 km of our location in Aargau delivery is free. Beyond that CHF 15 surcharge (up to CHF 30 for very long distances, confirmed before acceptance). Collection by arrangement is possible.
How do I order olive oil?
Choose 1 L or 5 L on the website, fill in the request form. We contact you personally by phone or email to confirm. Payment on delivery or collection via Twint or cash — no online credit card checkout.
What does the olive oil cost?
1-litre bottle CHF 30, 5-litre container CHF 100 (lower per litre). The price reflects limited family harvest, late harvest and direct import — not mass production.
Why is the harvest limited?
We have only around 220 trees. Late harvest, strict selection (no fallen olives) and quality over volume mean only a limited number of litres each year. When sold out, you can register interest for the next harvest.
Is Portuguese olive oil good?
Portugal, especially Trás-os-Montes, produces characterful oils — often round and slightly peppery. Our family oil is not optimised for the world market but for our own table. That is the difference in flavour and origin.
How should I store extra virgin olive oil?
Dark, cool (not in the fridge) and dry — away from the stove and direct sun. After opening, use within a few months to preserve aroma and freshness.
